Track History

Huntly International Speedway is the Waikato region's premier speedway venue. The exact founding date is uncertain — even the Taranaki Historic Speedway Association notes 'no dates or data known.' Evidence suggests racing began in the late 1970s or early 1980s at the McVie Road site near the now-defunct East Mine. The 380-metre red clay oval hosts a wide range of classes. The annual Stockcar Teams Event has been a signature fixture since 2005, with Auckland Alleycats leading the all-time tally. The Waikato Golden Oldies club, formed in 2008, keeps vintage speedway alive at the venue.
