Track History
Beachlands Speedway, also officially listed as Island Park Motor Speedway, is Dunedin's only permanent motor racing circuit. Located at the southern end of Waldronville near the coast, the exact opening date proved elusive across all sources, suggesting the track's early history predates the digital era. Dunedin has a broader speedway heritage โ Forbury Park Raceway hosted long track motorcycle speedway from the early 1980s, with the NZ Long Track Championship held there seven times between 1982 and 1988. Despite its relatively remote location southwest of central Dunedin, Beachlands is widely recognised as one of the best-prepared tracks in the country. The flat, two-laned surface with long straights and tight corners is similar to Eastern States Speedway in Blenheim. The track is promoted by Beachlands Speedway Inc and races on Saturday evenings at 6pm.
