Track History

Ashburton Speedway was founded in 1969 with first meetings held in a paddock at Fords Road, Tinwald, using power poles as barriers. The club moved to Seafield Road (Ashburton Airport) in early 1970. Started as the 'Ashburton Stock Car Club' with $2 membership, renamed in December 1985. Affiliated with CTRA since 2017. Oldest member Alan Kirk was still racing in his mid-80s as of 2023. The track races year-round on Sunday afternoons β€” unusual for NZ speedway. The 50th jubilee was celebrated in September 2023.
