The wait is nearly over. Saturday 5 September is the first time cars turn a wheel in the 2026/27 New Zealand speedway season, and it is Ashburton Speedway that goes first.

That is not an opening meeting in the proper sense. September is when clubs shake the cobwebs out: practice, greensheeting, licensing, a burnout night. The real openings come later, and most are in late October and early November.

So when does my track open?

That depends where you are. Practice nights start in September in Canterbury and Otago, while several North Island clubs do not run until late October or November. The calendar has every confirmed date, and each track page shows that club's own season.

The fastest answer is to stop checking. Put your email against your track on the home page and you get told when new dates go up, when a start time changes, and when a meeting is rained off.
