Caleb Ireland Makes History With Back-to-Back NZ Stockcar Titles
Caleb Ireland has etched his name into New Zealand speedway history, becoming only the second driver ever to win consecutive NZ Stockcar Championships.
Racing at Woodford Glen Speedway in Christchurch on February 22, Ireland finished with 82 points in a nail-biting finale, edging out Harley Robb by just a single point (81 pts). Riley Eathorne rounded out the podium with 78 points.
The only other driver to achieve back-to-back Stockcar titles was Peter Rees in the 2012-13 seasons, making Ireland's feat all the more remarkable.
Registered to Meeanee Speedway in Napier, Ireland's consistency across qualifying and finals proved the difference in one of the closest NZ Stockcar Championship contests in recent memory.
